If you want to start a fat loss program, you will want to know your total body fat. It's not a perfect solution, but it will give you an idea of your starting point and will allow you to measure your progress. In fact, all of those methods are inexact, so the results obtained with a method can't be compared with the results obtained from another method. So here are a few ways to calculate your body fat:

The body mass index (BMI) is a basic way to calculate your body fat. The formula is based only on your weight and height, so if you replace fat by muscle, it won't be taken into account. It's a good starting point, but it can be very misleading.

There are also scales on the market that will help find out your body fat. They work only to a certain point depending on the model and your body type, so make sure you shop carefully. Also, don't change the scale model you use so you can compare your results over time without errors.

A better way is by using body fat calipers that pinches your skin folds in certain parts of your body. It's a lot more accurate, but you have to use the tool correctly, and it's pretty hard to use it on yourself so you may need to ask the instructors at your gym for help. Still, it's one of the best options and will give you a very good idea of your progress.

Finally, you will have to trust that your training helps you and let the results speak for themselves. You may not always see small improvements since you get used to your new body as you build muscles, so checking your progress will allow you to have a more precise idea of your progress and aim for precise objectives.
